Hi, all!

It’s been a while. And I have come back with news to share. I have a new blog!

So go toย meg-simplejoys.blogspot.com and follow me there!๐Ÿ˜€

I have just begun my last semester in college. Oh my. It’s pretty crazy! As I sat in classes this week, I tried to take everything in, engraining things in my mind so I can remember for years and years. I know that if this semester is anything like last semester, it’s going to fly by and all of the sudden I will be moving on from all of this. So I must take it slow, day-by-day, and just enjoy.

Well, I have some photos from the last day of Christmas break! I spent my last day of break with Kevin. We went to Wealthy Street Bakery and did some wedding plans. We ate at a hotdog place that both of us have never been to before! And we started and finished our search for a home. But more on that later!๐Ÿ™‚

I just went through most of my photos from the past year. Pulling out only 10 photos for this weeks challenge was tough. 2011 was a really good year indeed. I ran a 5K, started the social work program at GVSU, was an RA, traveled on a mission trip to Philadelphia, witnessed a best friend getting married, and got engaged to my love!๐Ÿ™‚

Here are some of my favorite photos (and memories) from 2011.

My door.

My best friends.

My trip.

My dog.

My Grandma.

My fiance.

My family.

My friend and her new hubby.

My love.

Here’s to you, 2012.๐Ÿ™‚

Christmas is a coming.๐Ÿ™‚ Before it’s here, I have a few festive photos to share!

Little snowmen cupcake toppers. So cute. They look like an army of snowmen when they are all together!

This is my mom’s Christmas sweater, now my Christmas sweater. I’ve worn it a lot since I’ve been home from break. It’s cozy, cherry and festive.

And my family’s lovely tree. I put a few ornaments on it this morning because it wasn’t looking very festive before.

Merry Christmas!!!

This is my small, little, perfect Christmas tree in my apartment. It plugs into my computer and shines, changes colors, and gives my whole room a soft glow.

Sooo, let’s talk wedding shall we??

When Kevin proposed, we started the countdown to our wedding day. 11 months seemed like a REALLY long time! Now, we are a couple days shy of 6 months and we both cannot believe how the time is flying by!

In 184 days, we’ll be married!

Right now, I am really enjoying this season of life. It’s such a time of anticipation, preparing to get married. We are busy dreaming up ideas for our day, from what kind of flowers, to what kind of food. We walk around Target and Bed, Bath & Beyond, captured in thoughts of what we are going to fill our home with. We dream of laying on the beach on our honeymoon, after this season is done and a new one is just beginning. When my mind quiets down from all of the busy planning, which rarely happens, I can’t help but feel overwhelmed with thankfulness.

How did this happen to me?? Really, it still feels like it’s not happening… But it is. God placed a wonderful man in my life and am so so grateful!

On another note, I captured this photo of my ring for my photography class, and I really wanted to share it! Have I ever mentioned how much I love my ring? I LOVE it! I stare at it multiple times a day, thinking just how much I love it. Kevin got it from Brilliant Earth. Have you heard of it? They specialize in conflict-free diamonds and are very eco-friendly. Their store is located in San Francisco and someday, I hope to go there.๐Ÿ™‚

Any who, I hope to write more posts about my wedding soon! I’ll leave with a quote I found recently that I like a lot…

“Love is everything it’s cracked up to be. It really is worth fighting for, being brave for, risking everything for. And the trouble is, if you don’t risk anything, your risk is even greater.” ย -Erica Jong

I’ve been on a baking hiatus.

There are lots of reasons for this, but the fact of the matter is… I’m back!

Today, I made chocolate chip cookies. Yep, just normal chocolate chip cookies but let me tell you, I was just so happy. I forgot what baking does to me! I stood in my two foot wide kitchen, stirring and thinking, I hope that I love baking for the rest of my life. I hope that I have more time in the future to bake. I hope I have a family to bake for. Like, little kids. So I can make yummy little treats for them.

Also, on another note.

I have been blasting Christmas music today. Yeah, it may be a little early, I will admit. But hey, it makes me happy and I’m excited so I will not stop.

I’m wearing my Christmas PJ’s to bed these days too.

It’s great.

It won’t be long that this season will be over and we will be starting preparations for next Christmas!!! (Yes, like how they do it in ELF!)

Anyway, this all relates you see. This baking today has got me thinking about all the baking I am going to do! ย Christmas is a coming, and it will be a wonderful time to BAKE! I want to bake all sorts of things when I go home for Christmas break. So, I am going to start compiling my baking concoctions and be prepared.๐Ÿ™‚

Hi!

I’m in a random, funny mood. So I will just preface this post by saying that.

Tonight, I painted my nails. Haven’t had them painted in a while folks, and boy did I miss it. They’re grey. Yeah… grey! Don’t be hatin’. It looks good.

I painted my nails while studying. And chewing bazooka gum. Yes, you can do all three at once and it sure is fun.๐Ÿ™‚ I’ll let you know how the exam goes… ha.

I can’t wait for the day when I don’t have to study. Can I just say that? Ok. Just did.

Now, onto a more important note.

I have been in love with this song. And so, I am going to share it. Do you know Josh Garrels? If you don’t, you should. Give him a listen!

Hi friends.

I just came home from the library on-campus. I’m munching on some popcorn now.

I wanted to tell you about my latest photography endevours. You see, a while ago now I had this idea… more like a dream… of becoming a photographer. A good one. ย Maybe even aย professional one. I had this dream and it seemed very attainable at first thought. I knew I had a lot to learn, and I knew I would at least try. I put away my point and shoot camera and got my hands on a DSLR (a fancy one). Not until this summer did I begin to learn the basics of photography. Now, I am in full manual mode, there is no going back to automatic. I’m in a photography class that requires this, along with other tough challenges to a photo newbie. Most days in class, I feel like I am way over my head. But sometimes, (on a good day) I feel a little spark inside me, something driving me to have motivation and confidence that I can really create a beautiful image.

I guess I didn’t realize how much of an art photography is.

And how hard it is!

Seriously people, it is not easy.

So I ‘spose I just want to say that I give the photographers out there way more credit. (That means you Jenn Anibal, Bobbi and Mike, Bryan and Mae, Jillian Bowes, Beth Fletcher… all my favorites, duh!)

I am going to share my progress with you. This semester I am dedicating myself to this art. I am still working on that dream, only with the expectation that I will improve over time.

and just for fun…๐Ÿ™‚

Last weekend, I attended a beautiful wedding. Andrea, one of my best friends from high school, married her sweetheart. I have known Sam and Andrea for many years and I know they long awaited becoming Mr. and Mrs. Finally, their dreams came true as they vowed to commit their lives to each other. Today I have the pleasure of sharing what I captured on their wedding day.

But first. I made cookies and of course, I have to share them. Andrea wanted homemade cookies for her wedding favors. She asked me to bake them! I knew I was up to the challenge, even though I have never baked 350 cookies before. Needless to say, I was a little nervous but everything turned out (thanks to some help from my mom, Kristina, and Kevin) and now I am a pro cookie-baker.๐Ÿ˜‰

And onto the wedding day…

The bride getting her hairs did.

Andrea made this flower that she wore in her hair.

Andrea was a gorgeous bride!!!

The lovely bridesmaids!

Andrea’s nephews were the ring bearers. SO DARLING.

Happy groom.

Congratulations Sam and Andrea!!! I love you both. Enjoy being married, friends!
